TYPES OF PILATES I SPECIALIZE IN

I work with clients who have a variety of different disabilities and conditions: arthritis, Erb’s palsy, spinal stenosis, vertigo, stroke, cancer, bulimia, diabetes, ADHD, and COPD. Clients use Pilates to ease their aches and pains and manage their symptoms.

Start on the reformer if you’re injured or have been in an accident. Equipment provides gentle support for your classes. It treats everything from whiplash to foot fractures (you can even do classes while you have a boot or cast on!) The weight of the equipment quickly helps you develop coordination, body control, balance, and strength.

Want to have better balance? You’ll need stronger abs, faster reflexes, and to ease your body out of fight or flight mode. The mat is one of the fastest places to build core strength, get a much stronger upper body, ease hip pain, and tone that tushy. If you can’t access reformer classes  – the mat works just as well, delivering a low-impact full body workout.

Rotator cuff injuries

In the fall of 2019, my sister in law told me she found a Pilates instructor she really enjoyed working with. I finally pushed myself to go and find out what all the hype was about. I met Norah, and we instantly clicked. She was kind, thorough, and patient.

At 65 years old, I suffered with spinal stenosis and needed some self assurance that Pilates would be beneficial for me. Within a few meetings, I looked forward to each class more and more. Over the last three years, between Covid and other interruptions, I have gained my self worth back, strengthened my core, regained a lot of my balance issues, and have lost over 55 pounds. I still do mat exercises every other day, and arm and back exercises alternate days. Plus I walk 2 miles seven days a week.

I wish Norah hadn’t moved away, but she showed me how Pilates is a lifestyle that really works. Anyone, in particularly if you are stiff, achy, and think this isn’t for you, YOU ARE WRONG. It is a gentle form of movement with great breathing techniques. Give it a chance – you will thank yourself for getting off the couch.

Arthritis

As a senior with numerous medical ailments, I was weary of pain and sluggishness. I was very fortunate to find Norah. It was with some trepidation, but I bit the bullet and we started a life changing one on one Pilates. She taught me how to breathe, stretch, move limbs that were stiff and aching. After our first session I was dreading the pain that was surely to follow. I was astounded! I experienced no negative after-effects and quite the opposite was uplifted.

Eventually my body became stronger and so did my slight depression. Norah is highly skilled and tailored my movements to accommodate my age and abilities. She is highly recommended and I encourage anyone, at any age, with any disability to give her the opportunity to teach the fundamentals of Pilates.

Hypermobility

Norah is a fabulous Pilates instructor. I've been working with her for almost a year to build strength and deal with pain as someone with hypermobility. She tailors the class to what her students need and is always willing to explain each move to help you get the most out of it and avoid injury. She's extremely accommodating of differences and accepting of marginalized folks who might not have access to or feel comfortable in a typical studio space. She's a kind, caring, and fun person to work with. I always feel better both physically and mentally after a class with her!
